Council joining celebrations for Love Parks Week

Northumberland County Council’s parks and country parks are among hundreds of green spaces across the country taking part in Love Parks Week 2024.

The celebration will take place from 26 July to 4 August, bringing together the council, landowners, residents, and community organisations to celebrate and support our fantastic green spaces.

The County Council will be highlighting what parks mean to the community, as well as the great work that is carried out by volunteers and staff to maintain our green spaces as part of the campaign.

Earlier this month 13 Northumberland parks were awarded prestigious Green Flag Awards which recognises them as some of the very best in the country.

This international award, now celebrating its 28th year, is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.

Northumberland County Councillor Colin Horncastle, cabinet member for Looking After our Environment said: “Here in Northumberland, we take great pride in our parks and country parks. They are very much valued by those who visit them.

“Love Parks Week is a great opportunity to showcase what parks mean to those who visit them, activities within our parks and to showcase the people who help to maintain them, ensuring they remain places for wellbeing, reflexion, and enjoyment for many years to come.”

Keep Britain Tidy’s Chief Executive, Allison Ogden-Newton OBE, said: “The Love Parks campaign would not be possible without the backing of our local authority partners, including Northumberland County Council, park managers and landowners.

“This week is an opportunity for everyone to celebrate, appreciate and recognise the value of their park and green space. To talk about what that green space means for them and their communities.

Parks improve our health and wellbeing, and we want everyone to hear that message so that during this week of putting the spotlight on our precious parks people who may not think parks are for them, give their local space a visit.”
