Council Shortlisted for Energy Efficiency Awards

Northumberland County Council has been shortlisted as a top finalist for two prestigious national awards for improving energy efficiency in homes across the county.

The Council has been shortlisted for Best Council and Best Vulnerable support organisation of the year for the Warmer Homes and Northumberland Communities Together initiatives at the National Energy efficiency Awards 2024.

Since 2021, 353 homes have received energy efficiency upgrades, and 882 residents have been advised on energy savings since 2023. The Council has also helped install 149 energy-saving measures in social housing, 86 of which were County Council homes.

These improvements, including insulation and ventilation upgrades, are expected to save approximately 410 tons of CO2 annually, contributing significantly to the Council's net zero target.

Glen Sanderson, Leader of Northumberland County Council and Cabinet Member for Climate Change, expressed pride in the team’s efforts and said: "We are incredibly proud to be recognised for our efforts in making Northumberland a leader in energy efficiency and sustainability.

“These nominations are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our Warmer Homes team and Northumberland Communities Together teams, who have not only improved the comfort and well-being of our residents but have also made a significant impact on our journey towards achieving net zero."

The winners will be announced at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, NEC Birmingham on the 11 October.
